Tranny problems

So i have a 96 F250 with the 7.3 PS. so my problem is the transmission goes into a fail mode intermittently the guy at our local shop said the VSS was covered with metal shavings like a possible bearing going out. would that cause my transmission problems?

What do you mean by fail mode? If the vss is covered with shavings that very well could cause a problem with it. However if the vss is that covered, you probably have some rear end problems too.

Pull the rear end cover and see what you have.
