Looking to replace the springs on my EX. Talked with ATS and got a rough price. Downside is I really don't want to install the springs myself.

So I called the local spring shop and the guy quoted me $1500 per axle. Labor was "ONLY" $375 per axle.

Someone tell me am I not being unrealistic on this. I can not see $1100 for springs and associated parts per axle.

 

That seems out there.

I was looking at $500 for all the springs and was quoted $400 in labor

Maybe ask me next week. I just did mine and am still sore from it. I got estimates of around a grand to do them. Its no walk in the park in a driveway, but if you have the time, large breaker bars, a few good hydraulic floor jacks, at least 4 jackstands and two of them need to be the big ones, and not a lot of rusty fasteners, its very doable.

 

I paid just over $800 for my X/C's from ATS, shipping and all. I had them installed at a local garage today, along with some other work. I get to pick it up in the morning. With labor I'm looking at $1000.00. I didn't think that was too bad.

 

Is that 200 in labor or 1000 in labor? One seems decent, the other seems great! I am sure you will update your thread with pics of yours tomorrow.

It's the GREAT price of $200.00 for labor! My bill will end up being more than that as I had him do some other stuff while it was in, general inspection, oil change, fluids, etc. prior to the road trip.

You know I'll have pics updated tomorrow! Hopefully by lunchtime. I haven't forgot about the question you sent me. I'll have an answer for that tomorrow too. ;D

If you've ever come close to dropping a 3\4-1 ton spring on any part of your body, then you'll know why the labor is so much!

 

....AND if you have ever asked your loving wife to come "give you a hand with something" and then ask her to help heave a spring into place you will realize that spring labor is less than what that stunt is going to cost me.

 

I'm feeling a little guilty that my entire modded X/B swap that I did myself had a total cost of $69 and that was for new custom made U bolts. I was very fortunate to have a coworker gift me the springs off his pickup after he lifted it. And having done the swap in my driveway I can also understand a the high labor charges for a shop to do it, those rears springs are heavy suckers!

 

The only thing I can say about the labor and the ex, is that the rear springs, especially the pass are stupid challenging to get in. The wheel well guard and the ac/heat lines are snug. It was challenging just to get the spring in let alone an impact. Most difficult vehicle I have done leaf springs on, and I have swapped at least 4+ completes f/r sets on various vehicles.

 

I am so not looking forward to ever doing this now...
