Battery Ground find.

We have been having an issue with weak starts. Never failed just sounded weak. This weekend I found that my Drivers side battery ground had High resistance, like 6 Mohm. I took the connection off the frame and found that it had built up dirt and grime and wasn't making a connection. Cleaned up the ground reconnected everything and all is good again (.05 ohms which is about as good as my meter gets). Sounds better when starting now. I wonder how long it has been like this. Had to be a VERY long time. Probably what killed my first set of batteries. Only one battery doing all the work. Plus probably why I have had some Alt problems also.

Great tip! I guess I need to trace out my grounds and check them out to see how clean they are.

On another note, I have plans to upgrade my charging system with larger charging and grounding wires in addition to adding a high output alternator. Guess I could work on all of this at one time!

I'm interested in upgrading my wiring also. I might be able to hold off now for a little bit with both batteries working again.

When i get a new car first thing i get is 0g wire and redo all the charging wires and ground in the engine with it. Helps so much. Alt to battery. Alt case to engine and engine to frame and frame to - on battery. If u run off road lights u will see a differance

Bad grounds cause all sorts of weird electrical problems. Not having the full ground is sort of like adding a resistor to the circuit.
