Tomahawk's Highboy Thread
Hi All,
I decided to start a thread for my truck here in the bump side forum.
When I got the truck it had "car" paddle mirrors.....yuck. I snagged some West Coast Jr. mirrors from ebay and cleaned them up.
Taking these pics made it much easier to figure out how to put them back together.
Reduced to parts.
All the stainless parts got buffed and I got all new stainless acorn nuts and washers.
I had some 3/8" stainless steel carriage bolts I turned into the T-bolts for the top and bottom of the mirrors.
Cut off the sides.
l
Flatten the top.
Remove the square shoulder.
No more crusty
I was going to fill the holes from the previous mirrors, and repaint the doors but I hate dealing with body shops so I decided to make some custom lower brackets to match the holes and wear pattern on the door. I hope it doesn't look too stupid.
I got a sheet of 3/32 tk. 304 SST and cut out the blanks.
That stuff is a PITA to bend.
Filing square holes was loads of fun.....not!
New rubber washers from a sheet of Buna-N.
I made sure to coat the raw edges of the hole prior to assembly.
I put a rubber gasket under each bracket.
Ready for installation.
So what do you think? Do the lower mounts look like crap?
This is how she looks tonight. I'm waiting on some water jetted parts for to make the hitch and finish the fuel tank installation.

Thanks Tim, looks like your kitchen remodel is going good.
Thanks Greg, I'm glad you like it. I'd rather take a beating than deal with a body shop.
Love the pic, I might have to borrow that sometime. LOL!

Thanks Randle, it was a heck of a lot faster and way less expensive than a trip to the body shop......and I'm cheap.
Thanks Jeff, I appreciate the kind words.
I finally got my water jetted parts for the hitch/bumper/shackle mount.
The approximate location of the crossmember.
Crossbar for the hitch in place.
I needed these plates to determine where the rear crossmember will be located. One step closer to getting the fuel tank installed.

Thanks grinner. The frame is jacked up high enough the rear wheels are off the ground. I did that to take the weight off the frame rails while I messing with the crossmembers.

Hi Doug, thanks for the complements!
Thanks Tim, how goes the Bronco build?
