power door locks trouble on 2000 150
I can't find much info on the power door locks on a 2000 f150, which is why i joined here. Both of the door locks work sometimes and sometimes not, or mabey half way up. problem is with door switches, remotes, and the key pad. since they try with all 3 i didnt think that it was a realy problem but since its both doors it doesnt seem like it would be the actuators????/ Can't find any kind of diagrams on the system and locations of the parts so that i can test each individually with out tearing the whole truck apart to find them?
any help would be appreciated- thanks.

Hi Patrick and welcome to FTE
I've seen both actuators fail before. They are attached right to the door latch now and are a bit of a pain to change. You have to remove the door latch.
I've also seen the lock **** bind up in the door panel. A little bit of filing will fix that.
You might want to take a look at the ground for the actuators. Both sides are grounded through a black wire in behind the passenger's kick panel.

You should check the voltage at the actuators when you try to lock and unlock them. There should be 12V at one wire, ground at the other when you unlock and then the other way around when you lock.
The diagrams are out of the Ford DVD shop manual. You can usually find them on eBay or the guys at www.flatratetech.com can probably set you up with one.

i will try again monday. I have to work tomorrow. the thought of taking the door panel back off - uugghh. that was a pain. should be easier this time though. I have been focusing on the relay or module that is located behind center dash though. I just dont remember it making that much noise when i pushed the lock/unlock buttons before the prob.
thanks

The door panels come off easily once youve done them a couple times
Pull the trim piece off that goes up the back of the door and remove the screw that's behind it. Pull the trim piece off around the door handle and remove the screw from behind it too.
Pull the switch panel up and unplug the switches. Then you just lift the door panel up to remove it.

that is when i tested the voltage at the switches and all was ok. I checked the travel of all of the moving components to make sure that there was no binding. I didnt remove the actuator itself and was having a hard time trying to reach the wiring which is actually in the back of the actuator which is hard enough to reach in itself. When i was playing with the switches during all of this is when i noticed the cliking under the dash so i removed the cup holder tray and the glove box and could see a box with wiring mounted to the fire wall. Looks like the only way to get to it though is to take the whole dash out.

There is a relay box under the large oval top cover on the passenger side of the dash. It just pulls off and retained with clips. I would bet a ten dollar bill you just need actuators. I have replaced literally hundreds of them on the F series. They are cheap and have been updated to a new design also.
