15 or 16 F-150
I am going to be in the marker for an F-150 later this year around July but I am in no real hurry. My questions are there any changes expected for the 16's? Should I stay away from the 15's because it is a new model year? I am leaning towards the 3.5 ecoboost. What transmission do they have and where are they made?
Thanks Chad.

The best I can find is the 6R transmissions are built in Lavonia, Mich. The 6R80 transmission is the only transmission available in the F-150's at this time. A 10 speed is rumored to be available for the 2017 MY.
I haven't read of any model year changes coming between '15 and '16 but it's way early. In fact, the Kansas plant just came on line building the 2015's.
The next big sales push will be Independence Day.
Hope this helps.

I'm in the same boat as you. Personally I'm waiting on the 2016 due to the changes coming for SYNC. I'm a tech nut and I've read too many complaints with the current setup. I think the new system will be better. I'm also hoping that the 10 speed transmission makes it earlier than rumored.
My other motive is I really want to see 200K on my current truck. It's just a milestone I want to be part of.

Its the best way to make more power and lower emissions over alternatives. Yeah I still feel 4 years later Ford jumped on the rice burner bandwagon. But I guess when your trying to phase out V8s for dog V6s you're going to need turbos.

Will Ford replace Microsoft as Sync partner?
Ford and Lincoln Sync will continue. But Ford’s partnership with Microsoft might be unraveling. Bloomberg reported that Ford may end its partnership with Microsoft for the next-generation of Sync, replacing it with the QNX operating system owned since 2010 by Blackberry Ltd. Microsoft Windows Embedded Automotive and Blackberry QNX provide the software underpinnings for most automakers. The automaker determines the features to implement and sets the visual interface. While some user complaints cite the interface, others take issue with slow reaction times by Sync and crashes.

Ford reportedly announced on December 14th that Microsoft will be replaced by QNX. Further reading on my part found that QNX will be standard on Titanium trim packages and that MyFord Touch will still be used on low end models. Also, MyFord Touch equipped vehicles cannot be upgraded to the QNX-based system.
Well Dim Sum, now you've got me thinking that the 2015 model year could be an undesirable model year.

Raj Nair is still not thinking correctly.
We are making $70-$100k (Canadian) decisions based up on how well their technology integrates and how well its supported. I do think that's something to think about when buying a newly minted 2015 Ford anything right now when it comes to the high trim models. I can already see the new threads in a year asking why they can't upgrade to the new system.

with the exception of the Sync feature I don't think anything else will be different between the '15 and '16's. Even if there are design flaws that show up on 2015 models it probably won't happen in great enough numbers for Ford to make design tweaks until after the '16's are already in production. The safest bet would be to wait until 2017.

I've already bought mine and love it. I don't think the distractions of the MyFord Touch will dissuade my appreciation for the vehicle. The engine has been around for several years. The body is my biggest fear. I've not been hit yet, my last vehicle had two wrecks before the paper tag expired. This model year doesn't have much spare stock on hand yet for accident recovery. I'll live.
