Axle flip

Kinda unsure? I was thinking about a front and rear axle flip on my 52. How much drop do you get and do I have to buy special brackets? Just little confused. Thanks for any help guys. This site is the best....

you don't want to flip the front axle, but you can flip the rear. All you need is new spring perches to weld to the rear axle, and possibly new u-bolts. for the front you have several choices depending on how low you want to go....

you can get the front axle dropped about 3 inches, remove some leaf springs (or get different types of springs), change the main leaf to a reversed-eye main leaf, etc....

here's a pic of my truck with the mods listed below....

FRONT - 3 inch dropped axle, every other leaf removed, and reversed-eye main leaf springs.

REAR - flipped axle to top of springs, removed every other leaf spring, and reversed-eye main leafs. Keep in mind that you will have to c-notch the frame if you flip the rear axle.

I also had to build new shock mounts front and rear. you can order pre-cut mounting tabs and brackets that you just weld on.

get a free catalog from Home - Classic Haulers F-1 Parts there is a lot of information in there about what changes to make to achieve your desired ride height.

Dropped axle, Axles, Axle, Guthrie, Ok is the ONLY place to get a dropped axle. There are after market axles available, but quality seems to be a problem, especially when you are ready to get it aligned...

Very nice looking stance on your truck. That's about the height I'm looking for? What's your total drop front and rear? Any rubbing issues? Wat size tires? Thanks for the reply. I'm a total newbie to lowering older trucks

Total drop is about 5-6 inches. Ground clearance is 5 1/2 inches at the bottom of the running boards. The products in the Mid-Fifty catalog are for 53-56 trucks, and the rear spring shackles are different for 48-52... Classic Haulers is Mid-Fifty's sister company that specializes in 48-52 trucks.

Tire sizes are P215/70R15 on the front, and P235/75R15 on the rear. I originally had P215/70R15 front and rear, but the rear sat lower than the front and I didn't like the look...

I started with a dropped front axle and flipped rear axle, then removed leafs until I got it where I wanted it. The truck drives really good, but does ride rough, but anything lowered that much is going to ride a little rough anyway, especially on leaf springs and a straight front axle.

My chassis is actually 53, just the body is 52. So that's why I'm looking on mid 50
