Well, your truck should be lighter(regular cab vs.extended cab),and both trucks' horsepower&torque should be about equal.Your upgrades will increase the 302's mid-range power, but you might have given up a bit of torque down low.His truck is an automatic,so he might pull a slight holeshot on you,but you should be able to get his truck, and win.It all depends on how good you are at rowing through that 5-speed,and if you don't waste time spinning the rear tires of the line.Traction, and good shifts are key.Good luck!First On Race Day!

Well, hp isnt everything, what have they got for torque? The Silverado will probably beat you anyway, new technology is hard to beat.

Mustang: The 4.8L has 270hp/285ft/lbs of torque. The 5L has 205hp/275ft/lbs of torque. They are quick motors suprisingly, but are just as weak on torque as 302's are. They also put 3:73 gears in alot of these trucks to account for the lack of low-end power.
They are still quick though, just not good for work purposes.

You're going to get spanked.
You can't beat technology or Chevrolet automatic transmissions. Very smooth, hold onto the low gear a long time, etc. The 5.0 is just not a strong motor in a truck application... although it IS very popular (for some reason).
I've certainly learned how to enjoy mine for what it is... certainly isn't as strong a puller as it could/should be... but gets the job done and does so quite respectably.

I hate to have to admit it but, I'm afraid that you would get beat. I am a diehard Ford man , but I live in an area that is mostly chevy, and I have driven some of the new ones. They are surprisingly powerful and chevy has done a real good job of matching the trannys to the engine so that they seam to always be in their powerband. My neighbor just bought a 3/4 ton ch&vy with the 8.1 in it and it KILLS my 90 F350 with a 460. ( time for a supercharger )

Your truck might be able to take him. I say this because my 91 4wd F150 with a 300-6 (lightly modified) burnt up a 2001 Silverado 2wd auto with a 5.4 or 5.3 whatever it is. We ran light to light and I took him on the holeshot and never brought it out of 2nd gear. I'll admit though, he would have left me on a flat out insterstate run.

i'm, pretty sure you'll get spanked, i raced a guy with a 99 4.3L V6 and i got him off the line but he beat me top end(mines an 89 302 w/auto) i have dual exhaust and a shift kit, even had my intake tubes off the truck when i raced. his truck has a K&Nand thats it, it was a reg cab short bed, same as my truck. jsut my 2 cents worht
