08 died for a short time

OK last Monday it was super cold for around here (-4 overnight). In the morning I went to run some errands and had been driving about 20 minutes (truck was well warmed up). On the interstate and it just dies. I pull off and try to start it for several minutes. No luck so I call my road service and while going around with them for 15 minute try and start and low and behold starts right up and runs fine. No more issues since then. Anyone know WTF is going on and do I need to do something (I did drain the water separator two days later and there was no apparent water)?

Do you run anything in your fuel for gelling?

No I did not. It is unusual for it to get that cold here but I guess I should start using some anti gel. I thought that might be it but what I assumed is if that was the issue it would have appeared before I had been driving for 30 minutes or so. Guess I was wrong, again!
