Me too, much better power. PSD in early trucks is a toss up with the 460. Later PSD is much more power though.
A mild 6BT is a honey.

i would still do a stock IDI with a turbo. more power than you will ever need, get high teens for fuel mileage, and run forever.

I wouldn't do a swap, rather find a diesel truck and sell the gasser. Keep an eye on craigslist and one will pop up for a reasonable price. I agree with Tom about the idi. Reliable, simple, spare motors can be found for $500 or so.

Don't have the heart to see the truck and I'd rather modify the life out of it anyway

Is it easier or better to get 1 fuel when you're driving the truck so you don't have to buy 2 different fuels Unless your driving the bronco. Then is it a pain getting different fuels?

stock is 185 hp and around 450FTLBS torque. add a turbo and it goes up to around 230-240 hp and 550-600 FTLBS torque.
but you do not measure the effectiveness of a diesel by HP, you measure the effectiveness by the amount of effortless work it will do.

a 7.3 IDI with a turbo, turned up fuel, and no muffler is equal to or slightly better than a first generation powerstroke.

The only real bad thing about these engines that I read is that they are slow.. is this true? How slow? I know it ain't a race truck so I'm not all to worried about speed

According to the manufacturer, the IDI made:
185HP and 338TQ @ 1400RPM '88-92
185HP and 358TQ @ 1400RPM '92.5+
185HP and 388TQ @ 1400RPM Factory Turbocharged

450TQ is possible with mods but stock was a long way from there.

Yes they are slow, yes they will tug heavy loads.
460 EFI made:
245HP and 400TQ @ 2200 in auto trans

While I don't have a graph to see, I would suspect that the 460 makes a little less than the IDI at 1400 but more than makes up for it by 1800.

IDI engines are long lasting and sip fuel. If you like to romp around some, it isn't the one for you.
A 6BT swap can be done for less than 5K if you shop around. PSD trucks are stupid money.
You have lots of options, decide on a course and get with it.

A guy around here puts red fuel in white and clear fuel barrels. Says once he cut the tree above them down and they got sun after two months the dye was bleached out. Not sure I believe it but several people say he does it and it works

never really drove any of my trucks without turbos, so i can not say how "slow" they were. but with the turbo they would keep up with or be slightly faster than most cars on the road. these were trucks with 4.10 gears, 5 speed trans, 35 inch tires, banks non wastegate turbos, and open exhaust.
even with the C-6 trans and 37 inch tires, my 88 with close to half a million miles on it still walks away from just about all the cummins trucks here in town, even though they have the big C stickers in the back window and the tow mirrors flipped up.

i would have to say they are about the same off a traffic light as a 351W with an auto trans.

Yep. Had a Dodge Cummins at the time. I got busted for ATF along with a whole bunch of other guys. They stopped at the sale barn and went thru the parking lot dipping tanks. When they got done they called the Sheriff's Department and made them stop the sale and find all the "offenders". The GOOD part of the story was we all stuck together, got one lawyer, split the legal fees, and got reduced tickets. They were going to be at least $500, some more. Ended up $125 across the board, plus $56.50 court costs. This happened in '93 or '94. I'm sure it would be much more today.
