Propane tank as a factory option?

I just bought my first highboy! Its being shipped from WA. The seller told me it has a propane tank and outlets/inlets on the left side under the bed. Was this a factory option? It's a 75 and very original so any info would be great!

Any thoughts? Maybe some kind of an aftermarket equipment for camping use?

X2 on I bet NO OEM option, aftermarket for running the truck itself on propane instead of gas.

I do not know if a duel fuel (gas and or propane at the same time) was a capability? I know you need a pressure regulator of some sort and a different carb to run propane and of course a propane tank.

In the late 80's my dad ran a chevy that had a spacer between the carb and intake. Which allowed it to run gas or propane.

I just had a talk with the seller and he's sending photos of the tank. I think after talking with him that it is an after market addition used for powering generators, or maybe a grill while camping. Does that seem a likely reason?

Propane dual fuel was a popular aftermarket addition in the late 70's and early 80's since gasoline had nearly tripled in price and propane was still quite cheap.77&79 is correct there would be a regulator and 4wyndr is correct that a spacer/mixer between the carb and manifold and a switch inside to switch from gas to propane or the reverse. If you get a chance look at a warehouse forklift set up

Thanks for the input guys. It's much appreciated. Any feelings about wether I should have it removed or just leave it?

And...not to complicate things but the axle code is P. What front axle do I have if stock? I've read through some posts on this and they get over complicated very quickly.

propane used to be a hot thing.. until it got taxed heavily. I had a plymouth voyager that was FACTORY propane! It's nice when it work.s Also look into state/provincial laws. I had to re-certify the system every 5 years to even FILL it!

Imo - ditch propane system.

If I had it set up to run either/or at will and the provision
to also use it for the camp BBQ. I think that would be a
great set up. Add a cab over camper and leave home for
the other coast. And ditch the cell phone.

No such thing as a P only axle code.

1963/79 F100/350: AXLE code stamped on the 2nd line-far right of the Warranty Plate, located on the left door face below the latch.

If the AXLE code has two digits, this refers to the rear axle. The 1st digit will be a number (no Limited Slip) or a letter (with Limited Slip, but there's no P). The 2nd digit is a number.

If the AXLE code has 3 digits, the 3rd digit could be either a number or a letter, refers to the front axle.

If the 3rd digit is P .. this refers to the 4WD's front driving axle, which on 1973/75 F250's is a Dana 44-6CF with Power Steering.
