I plan to order a ʻ15 F150 this summer and I was surprised what the "build and price" section offers at the Ford Website.

The 2.7 EB package offers 3.73 gearing on a 9.75 inch ring and pinion?

What do you guys think about this package.

 

I suspect that the 2.7 EB engine won't deliver on the fuel mileage because of the small size. It'll be under boost more than the 3.5 EB engine and while under boost more fuel is required to maintain proper air-fuel ratio. That's my thoughts on this package.

 

I think in a rcsb it would be good, buy anything bigger. I see it struggling.

Kind of like how the 5.0 does better towing then the 3.5, and the 3.5 barely beats it on mpg empty.

Either way we have to see real world people driving for how it really does.

 

I can't be the only one who cares more about how much power it puts out than the fuel economy. For that reason, I'm pretty sure I'd only get the 3.5EB.

 

a friend of mine works at a Ford dealership and one of the salesmen took a new '15 with the 2.7EB on a 200mile trip and it got in the upper 20's. I don't know the specs on the truck, but I'm going to assume it was a 4wd since we see very few 2wds around here.

 

The 24 hour race was won by an EB powered Car.

This win will prove a lot to many doubters.

 

I at dealer right now and just drove 2.7 it feels significantly quicker than the 5.0 I tested yesterday

 

To me it seems the only reason to go with 2.7 is mpg. Now, if that old boy on the 200 mile trip got 26 or so, hey, the 2.7 got me attention!

 

It is only info for him to decide on n how to spend her s money. In f I planned to tow as my first job 5.0.

If I wanted a because race car 3.5 Eco.

If I wanted mpg and enough punch t be fun 2.7.

If I didn't care just wanted a truck 3.7 na.

The only way to have the best engine is to be honest with your intentions for the truck then choose accordingly.

 

I donʻt need to haul 800 pounds of tools everyday anymore, my next truck will mainly be used for commuting 17 miles one way.

I will need to haul lumber on occasion and tow a canoe on a trailer which will be around 1000 pounds.

 

Sounds like a good choice to me. I have the 3.5 EB with the 3.55 axle. I will get the 3.73 next time. From what I have seen, the difference in mpg's is probably next to nothing, especially for my driving. I don't do a lot of interstate, drive mountains regularly, run the heavier 10ply tires, and tow light to heavy loads. I may even get better mpgs, but mostly the EB won't work quite as hard with the 3.73.

 

Quite the opposite. Don't know where you've been looking.
Trust me, you don't want my mpg with 3.73.

Oh, now that's messed up!

 

I am sure the 3.73 lets the 2.7 engine spool up quicker making the truck feel a lot more peppy.

No doubt a tiny engine can use gears. The context of his statement was 3.5L. I just don't want him to be surprised/disappointed with reality after trading truck.

 

Now that's backwards, the 3.5EB is the best towing of the bunch and I think the MPG would even out as I know my buddy with a 5.0 gets the same mpg towing as my EB.
