Finding a 60 pin OBD-I computer that supports the DPFE EGR feedback (versus positional/EVP) on the '96 engine may not be possible. This is not a plug-n-play swap at all. It is doable but there are a few things to figure out.
Ok, you two are way over my head. What would be the best way to go about it?
Try and find a 60 pin 6 cyl ecm? Or will that not work with the 104 pin OBDII engine harness?
he said something about having an extra connector down by the trans too
Sourcing a 60 Pin PCM from a 6 cylinder truck with the same transmission (assume E4OD) would be the easiest putt here. The next problem to overcome is the EGR feedback.
The extra connector is most likely the output shaft sensor from the 4R70W transmission that was probably behind the '95 5.0L engine. The E4OD on the 6 cylinder does not have one. There may be some wiring differences in the transmission pins between the two model transmissions, like which pins control the solenoids, converter clutch, etc. They may not be in the same position.
Canister Purge valve...it is triggered to pull the vapors out of the charcoal canister from the fuel tank. OBD-II uses a fancier version called a Vapor Management Valve.
