Performance Coils for 3valve V10

What are everyone's thoughts on Performance coils for the 3Valve V10? I found a few brands and i'm curious if anyone has installed any aftermarket coils, if so did you swap to a different spark plug? did you notice a difference in performance? What is a reliable brand to go with?

Here you will find most reccomend Motorcraft. If your truck is an 09 like your screen name I think you will have the one piece spark plugs.

If your looking for performance look into 5 star tuners, headers and gears.

Yes, it has the one piece plugs, I recently changed them and the originals were one piece which was relieving. Ive got "full exhaust" minus the original manifolds (I was told there are no headers made for the three valve v10) and its got 4:10 gears and 5star tunes. Its definately not lacking on power, I just hear so many people at work rag on the factory coils that I figured I'd upgrade when it came time to do so. But the people on here should know best!

Stick with factory coils, no aftermarket ones are better. You will not notice any difference with "performance coils". Unless you have ultra high compression, turbo or supercharger they are useless. Most claims of a performance increase with a "hot" ignition usually come from the new plugs and wires replacing the old ones and not the ignition or coil.

Ok, I appreciate the input! This is my first vehicle to have COP, it sounds like I should stick with Motorcraft. It has a very slight miss (not enough to set a code) that most would not even notice but i'm picky and I notice it. It did it before the plug change and after so my next guess is one of the coils.

For the misfire check the coil under the cowling. Sometimes these get wet. Also if there is a groove in the boot consider placing a o ring to seal it better.

If you do indeed have even a slight misfire the OBD-II system should detect it. There is a misfire counter that once its over a threshold the CEL comes on.

It could be there is also a pending DTC which can be read with even a basic hand-held scanner.

As far as COP's nothing but Motorcraft or better NAPA stuff for me---learned my lesson with Grantelli's a few years ago.
