Exclamation IPR screen - Newer motor. what would you do.

sigh.

2004 XLT 2x4

Spent money on parts and recondition the original 226K/mi motor.

Everything running strong under load w/ 23' travel trailer, good HPOP, good oil temp, good boost (not overboost). Shredded a bearing. WTH???

Anyway, got an '05 6.0 @ 135k/mi and will pull the original engine out. Inspected newly purchased '05 motor - Oil valley screen gone (torn).

The dilemma: IPR screen was clear but upon removal small piece of plastic frame for screen internal to IPR (inward facing in the IPR) not located. Should I be worried?

What would you do.

1.) clear out the HPOP (how do I do it)
or
2.) simply replace IPR sreen
or
3.) Replace IPR all together
or
4.) do number 3.) and be paranoid and clean each injector along with the HPOP oil rails.
or
5.) your recommendation?

So the whole screen was gone? Or just torn screen and one small piece? How much of the plastic is missing?

The IPR screen remained in the HPOP when I removed the IPR. I put my finger in the HPOP to retrieve the screen. the "Y" pieces of the inside (internal to the IPR) were brittle and cracked. one small piece, smaller than the tip of a piece of dried rice is missing. I could not find it. I figured it would be lodged in the IPR spring or valve. I didn't find it.

The oil valley screen was garbage, only one section remained. All other sections were missing. Sorry for the confusion. I think the only worry is just the IPR screen plastic.

I don't think I'd worry about it.

If your that far into it on an 05 you might as well pull the HPOP cover and see if it has the updates stc fitting. They are known to fail and are not expensive to buy. Then while you have the HPOP out you can clean and inspect things. Oh and the stc kit comes with a new ipr screen as well.

I pulled the cover off, looks like it has the fitting update. But I did find the source of an oil leak...the upper oval seal on the HPOP was MIA. Anyway, got it sealed now. Im going to use the '04's IPR since the screen is new.

Myself I would have been more worried about what may have taken out the resivoir screen.
A lot more surface area for more and bigger trash to go thru right into the pump.
But thats just me.

I would agree if the resivor screen wasnt the older "clothe" version. The one section that remained was clearly inferior in material than the new one. So I am making an assumption that this is the reason the IPR was replace or atleast the screen was as indicated by the "Y" plastic supports which crack upon my removal. New IPR screens have this Y as I understand.
