I thought it would be worth noting that there is a rubber piece between the fog light bezel and the intrument bezel, if you want to keep originality. There are indeed two pegs that stick through the instrument bezel, as Gary's parts inistration depicts. I have a fog light bezel in my truck, and hopefully one day will have the complete setup, as factory as possible.

What ever happened with this? Did the 3D printing idea ever get tried? I would sure be interested in a "copy" if this were to come to fruition.

I don't think it would be difficult to draw up the fog light piece of the bezel. Then it could be printed and glued on the front of an existing instrument bezel after a slot was cut in it. That would allow you to move it around a bit to get it straight before the glue set up. Or, I could draw it with the two pins, but you would have to drill holes accurately to take the pins.

If someone is willing to fund the first attempts I will draw it up and send you the file. Ron funded the dash patch and it came out right on the second try.

My friend dropped out of school, and we lost access to their 3D printer

And, that reminds me that I was supposed to draw the bezel up in 3D. I'll see if I can get that done, soon. Maybe someone can print them, or have them printed.

I should have been here asking about this sooner, found the whole factory setup this morning in a jy. The fog lights on the front looked aftermarket long long time ago, and the wiring wasn't much good. I've seen these in wood grain trim online but never in the dark grey waffle weave.

Could you make some very precise measurements on the fog lamp bezel? Here's what I think I'd need:
  • Outside of the bead surrounding the switch to outside of the bead
    • Side to side
    • Top to bottom
  • Width of the bead
  • Height of the bead

Thanks in advance!

I don't have a tool to measure font size, not sure what tool I'd need to take those measurements that small to be honest. I'll get the top/bottom side-side asap

So this truck is for sale near me, almost a twin to my truck, 2wd likely a Custom, with a/c and fog lights. I wish I had the spare $500 to buy it. Advertised with a 351W but I don't think that is right for '81, doesn't look like an M though. I would be tempted to buy it just for the fog lights. I'm pretty sure its the Custom black weave dash.

Could be a 302 as they were available in '81. And someone might have swapped in a W.

Both possibilities I have thought about. Would have to go look to confirm. But not to completely hijack the thread, do the fog lights look to be in the right spot for a 2wd? I would have thought more inboard to not block the signals. Maybe a bad photo angle. I can only imagine how rare a black bezel with fog lights would be. Or black weave a/c for that matter. The truck also has what look to be factory aluminum wheels. Does the fog light switch actually switch power or just run a relay? I've been thinking if someone managed to repo the switch bezel we would still need to find a factory looking switch. It would be handy for other things than fog lights. Especially if its 3D printed and could have any wording.
