The adhesive ones work for me as well. I prepped the area with isopropyl alcohol before I stuck them on there, and it's a good idea to mark a straight line from the front door to the back door (as a guide) before install. You can use a dry erase marker or the like - window cleaner removes dry erase, and alcohol removes permanent marker. Test your marker on the inside door paint to feel more comfortable about writing on your truck.
I put the taped Auto Vent Shades on my '01 Crew Cab back in '02 when I purchased it. Nary a problem. They attached to the rubber around the glass and not the paint. This made them easy to align. They came with a cleaning wipe and also an activator one. They have held tight to this day.
I have had tape on , on my 2003 since it was new. They are still tight all the way around. I think channel deflectors look so much better. That's just the designer in me.
