The original brake line size was 1/4". You may have trouble making all the connections if you are using the original brakes.

1/4 line diamter???? That cant be correct. The fuel line I can see at 1/4 but normally brake lines are 3/16 diameter

The brake lines I took off my truck were all 3/16 but I couldnt say for certain that they were original.

F-2 and larger used 1/4", F-1's are 3/16".

The OP's truck is an F-2 (D in the chart below), so 1/4" is correct.

Yea guys I was thinking the original was 1/4 because one old line that remained was that size. I messed with 1/4 on the rear and its a pain in the a#$. I hate brakes anyhow so it just made matters worse. I have been able to get the 3/16th to connect up to the front with no issue at all well ish... The brake fluid seems to be holding have not tried to bleed them yet. So my next question would be in regard to pressure would there be a problem using this 3/16th line. My initial thought is there would not, and the only reason ford used that size was for heavy duty purposes. Any thoughts if I am on the right track?

Ross where are you pulling these parts pictures from? I have the manual but don't think I have the parts manual; I could only assume that is what you are using. And thanks a million for your help. Could you tell me what size the fuel line is. It appears to be quarter as well. Thanks again.

Fuel line is 5/16" on all models.

I get them from the Parts CD available here: 1948-56 Ford Truck Master Parts Catalog CD - HiPo Parts Garage

Are you using the stock brakes? If so I'd stick with 1/4".

There is a common theme on these old trucks; that is, Henry didn't spend a dime he didn't have to. He wouldn't use the larger tubing unless there was a good reason. In your case the brakes on an F-2 are a different type than an F-1's, and could very well need more fluid movement than an F-1. Smaller tubing could delay actuation of the brakes, which would suck...

Makes sense Ross the fluid movement was kind of my thought. I may go back and change this. Did I mention I hate messing with brakes. Necessary pain in the butt though.
