Can you imagine how little body damage on the side would render a car like that totaled? Not to mention what it would take to keep something like that operational after a couple of years exposed to real world elements.

Let alone getting in a wreck or sideswipe that then renders the door absolutely useless. I don't think it'd take very much to jam that thing up in a collision and there's no provisions for explosive bolts like the SLS.
The BMW Z1 has those type of doors as OEM.....
no problems when properly maintained
......just the first series had problems, because the doors disappeared at top speed....not funny
