4R100 Shifting Woes

Are there any reputable transmission guys around Hot Springs, AR? Need someone to read codes for transmission. Trans out of the blue just started shifting hard out of First gear. Some intermittent rattling noise. Serviced not even 2000 miles ago at Riser Ford. 117k easy miles. 4R100.

Shop

Went to Tim's transmission on Albert Pike. Second gear has gone out. Threw codes PO500 Vehicle Speed, PO781 1-2 Shift Error, PO732 Gear 2 Incorrect Ratio and PO720 Speed Sensor. Quote of $2195 plus tax with good TC and some upgrades.

Truck in shop and torn down. One-way clutch shelled. He says it is a ratchet type that was experimental and was only used for about 6 months. I'll get some pictures and post them later.

From the sound of things you have an early '01. 117K is about twice what most made it. Mine went out on the PO at ~35/40K. About 168K now and all is well with the proper sprag (sp?) type clutch. Still keeping a fund for a JW trans if / when needed though.

Would have loved to do the BTS but I just couldn't handle the 4200 at this time.

Not a bad price for the basic rebuild. I paid $2500 installed (not that it means beans). What's he mean by "good" TC? I would make sure you are getting a HD TC while this thing is out and your paying some good change.

Multi-disc billet TC. Welded internals. They have installed a lot of these converters and have not had any come back. Trans man has been rebuilding for 24 years and is doing some mods to make shifting more positive. Tad bit less than $2500 with mods, better TC , including taxes. Will pick it up tomorrow.

I try to do my research for anything having to do with anybody touching my truck. Hell, I'll critique on how someone patches a tire. It about drove me crazy letting the dealership do warranty work. Somebody else put a damn wrench near my SD!

That's how I was with my new polaris, when it came to warranty work…it sounds like he may have found some good help, though

Parts is Parts

Well, here's the culprit. Got my truck back today and I got the bad parts in a box. Maybe make some wall art out of them. Truck shifts out great, positive shifts but not hard ones. They tightened up a couple of bolts on the shifter which were loose. I didn't even notice it was loose till I drove it today, yep, it was. All the parts in the pictures were replaced, no extra charge. Precision brand HD billet TC He said my trans had the 6 pinion gears in the rear planetary too. 45 element sprag installed.
