Some experience needed

Hello All,
A was asked a favor by a friend to tow a skid steer on a 250 mile trip. It is actually a compact track loader, a Kubota SVL90. Have gotten my new truck I couldn't say yes fast enough!

About an hour later I realized there might be a problem. My 06 350 6.0 SRW is only rated to tow 12.5k out of the receiver.

According to Kubota, the machine weighs 11,023 (it will also have a bucket, so probably another 350).

The trailer will handle it no problem, it's an 18ft 14k equipment trailer. Total trailer weight it looking like it will around 14k.

I am well under my GCVW, but it is unsafe to not have this load on a fifth well trailer? Any advice or experience would be great!

Depends on pin weight. Also is it a regular 5th wheel or is it a gooseneck? AND: will his electric cord plug into your 7 pin?

Thanks for the reply.

It's actually a conventional trailer using a pintle hook.

I'd tow it myself.

I have towed well over that on the bumper. Just watch the pin wt. Put the bucket in the bed of the truck if you can.

Sorry to sound like a nube here, but what is the pin weight? I understand what it means on a fifth wheel trailer, but never heard it used when talking about bumper towing.

I should have said tongue wt. Didn't realize I said pin wt.

Ideally 10% of the trailer gross is what you would want.

In this case though I think you would be over that so try to keep it as close as possible for what the hitch is designed for.

might be a good time to look at some super springs, airless bags. I was looking at them today, kicking myself for putting on some air lift bags, man what a PIA! According to thier website you can put them on in half an hour or less. Then put a review on the forum...LOL SuperSprings Self-Adjusting Suspension Stabilizers

Towing it once, I would have no issues doing it with no changes to the truck. You'll want to be careful how you load that trailer to give yourself enough, but not too much, tongue weight. Take it easy, go slow both up and down hills, don't cook your brakes.

If you were needing to tow this regularly, I'd be looking at changing trucks, or upgrading some components.

My 14K lb flat bed trailer weighs 1900 lbs. If yours weighs that much that puts you over your GCVW slightly. Not so much that I would worry about a short 250 mile trip.
