87 f150 clutch issue

Was looking at an 87 f150 today. It's a inline 6/4 speed. Its defiantly a fixer upper and I could handle everything that's wrong with it besides one issue I have no idea about. The clutch seems to have a lot of play into till about halfway down then it's pretty hard to push down. The clutch disengages really early and when your rolling you can't shift into 1st until completely stopped. Any ideas

First of all check the fluid level in the master cylinder. I'm not familiar with the 4 speed transmission, but I imagine it has that rubber cup under the lid of the clutch master cylinder. Don't forget to remove that rubber cup when checking or adding BRAKE fluid to the clutch master cylinder. If it is a problem with the clutch master or slave cylinder, the 4 speed has an external slave cylinder unlike the MUCH harder to repair 5 speed with the internal slave cylinder.
