76 F100 with 302 -> needs more horses
Dear Forum Members,
I bought myself a 76 F100 longbed with 302 and C4 tranny.
My plan is to bring it in good shape and take it to Germany when my contract ends in US next year. Since we don't have such trucks over there I don't have the knowledge about the right components and good brands. I hope you could give me some advice how to get the truck a bit faster without spending several k Dollars or make it a gas guzzler below 10 mpg. ( gas 8-9 Bucks a gallon in Germany)
What it is right now:
302: not smoking or burning oil, clean oil, but not powerful
Holley 80457 carb on top of 8011 Weiand intake
Casted heads with red valve springs, 302 molded in
Compression at cold engine:
1:125 2:130
3:150 4:135
5:145 5:130
7:120 8:135
No headers, aftermarket dual flow exhaust
Original ingnition
about 10 mpg
Plan to work on it by myself and bring it for carb adjustment to a shop.
Thought about new heads, cam, headers? And replacing the almost rotten cooler.
Thanks in advance for your support,
Franz

Long tube headers and an MSD ignition would help pick things up and also help with starting. A cam would make a change in power and sound.
Aluminum heads or working over the iron heads would also help a bit.
The biggest gain you will see is from bumping up the compression.
Buy whatever parts you may need while stateside. They will be hard to find and expensive in Germany.
