It was only a matter of time...

I went out at lunch run a few errands, for some reason looked down and saw this:

Someone tried to break into my truck, but because of a precautionary measure I took not long after buying my truck, they weren't able to get in.

What is this precautionary measure? Jimmi Jammers

From the looks of it, they were really trying to get in, but the Jimmi Jammer did its job.

Just a friendly reminder: With the Holiday season our truck's are more of a target with how easy they are to break into. Spend the $50 and reduce the likelihood of someone breaking into your truck.

Funny you should say that....they've actually hit the 7.3 twice.

Once November 2009 and again January 2012; after that I removed the rods that go from the key hole in the door to the latch where it locks and unlocks. The only way to get the door open is to rip the door handle off and scrape your arm up bad, or break the glass and make yourself obvious.

That's why I didn't waste time installing Jimmi Jammers on the 6.0.

Thanks for the reminder- been meaning to do this. Between this and the 'Check the rear hatch lock', hopefully folks will prevent a rude holiday surprise.

So if you take off the rods, you don't need the jimmi jammers at all?

Yup, I got 'em on my old F250 (now my daughters) and on the Ex. Got 'em from Clay at Riffraff. Ford - 00-03 Excursion 7.3L - Exterior - Jimmi' Jammer? - Riffraff Diesel Performance

I don't have 'em on my current truck because the door key locks have been removed. I have to use my Viper alarm to unlock the truck.

I'll admit I went a little too far with that, you're better off doing things they way Stewart did.

So just pull the rods and I'm good? If I end up with that red X it needs the locks rebuilt so while I'm in there I might as well pull them out

Correct, the rod connects the lock cylinder with the door latch.

So, what do you folks do that have taken the rods off or eliminated the locks and the battery goes flat rendering the remote useless? I do have the CTEK battery maintainer connection coming through the grill I could power from the source setting of the unit to power the locks.
