Hopefully bringing this home soon.
It started out as a milk truck then sold to a local Fire dept and ended up at a gravel pit. Hoping to get some pics from the original owner when it was a milk truck.
The cab is in fair shape, some dents and rust but overall for MN good shape. Someone lengthened the frame and did a crappy job. I plan on shorting it anyways but I do have a line on a frame just in case.
Talked to the original owner he said mid 70's and he would dig up some pics of it. We are having a warm stretch here so hopefully the current owner will get the tank off it.
If I remember correctly Ford switched from the F O R D to the Blue Oval Ford emblems in 1983. On ALL their trucks
Ahh we were both wrong, the gear and cog went away in 1974, the blue oval came in 1984. I knew there were a few years that no emblem was on the front, only "FORD".
C series were unique in comparison to the other Ford trucks, they held onto older production standards much later than the more numerous F series, it was almost like time passed them by in many respects, with certain production procedures / holdouts tracing there way all the way back to the 50's, wheas the F series were made over several times in the same time period.
I could not find any numbers on it where it is. It should be much easier one I get it home.
The VIN is what the truck is registered by, so it will be printed on the registration/title.
VIN's thru 1980 have 11 digits, 1981 thru today have 17 digits.
Thru 1979, the Warranty Plate is riveted to the left door face below the latch. 1981 and newer have a Safety Standard Certification Label glued on (same location as Warranty Plate).
Both the Plate and Label have multiple codes that pertain to the trans/axle and etc, but...
People replaced damaged left doors with used doors. 99.9% of the time, they failed to install the original Plates/Labels on the replaced doors.
So, compare the VIN on the registration/title to the VIN on the Plate/Label to see if it matches.
Looked at it again today and could not find a plate or label on it. It does have power steering and air brakes. Trying to get it home, hoping to motivate it along this weekend. I knew I posted too soon.
From pics in Wagner's ford book this truck is between a 71-74. 74 is last year for the gear and lightning bolt on the front. Where the reflector on door is located is also an indicator. It would be where the 135 is on an older truck. It was moved below the beltline in 71
The year of this truck is 1974. Two biggest clues 1 : 1974 was the first year for the wider fenders 2: 1974 was the last year for the gear and lightning bolt emblem.

If 1974 was the last year for the gear & lightning bolt, what emblem was used on 1975/83 C/CT600/900's?
