It should, as the poly tanks I've seen had the metal lock rings attached. Keep in mind I believe there are 2 different sizes of those lock rings as there was a change somewhere in the late 80's I believe. Probably around the full carb to FI switchover so 87ish maybe? The answer to that & if there is actually a poly tank out there might be found at fullsizebronco.com if you want to add that to your google search criteria.

Jeff's & MTS both sell one. They may even be made by the same company? Anyhow, they call them out as a '78/'79 33 gallon tank. I wish that 38 gallon tank LMC makes came in plastic. That would be nice.

I was going to say earlier I seem to remember the 78/79's being the one with the plastic tank, but I couldn't figure out why that pooped in my head or where that thought came from so I just left it out. Good to see you were able to find one & that I'm not completely crazy.

Next on your to look at list is if the lock rings are different between the plastic tank & the tank you have. Hole diameter of the ring & the plate on the sender itself would be the issue.

I'm pretty sure the lock rings, rubber gasket & sending units are the same for a metal & plastic tank. Jeff's only sells one lock ring and one sending unit for the 33 gallon tanks. I'd imagine if they were different then they'd sell a lock ring/sending unit for each.

Hopefully. My concern was what I had mentioned earlier of thinking there was a late model metal vs. an earlier one & if you happen to have a late model. Either way you can just order the tank & if your existing parts for some reason don't fit then you can order the new ring, gasket & sending unit then.

Things are going to slow down A LOT for me in the next few weeks. Had a 4' flourescent bulb break and cut my palm just below the thumb pretty severely on Monday. It only took 2 stitches but it severed my tendon/ligament that works the tip of my thumb. So now I get to have surgery on it on Friday. Luckily it was on my left hand.........

Once I get that plastic fuel tank I will at least get that installed. I'll have my 13 year old help the old man out

Here's the answer I received from Jeff's Bronco Graveyard:

Yes everything that you have in the steel tank now will fit in the plastic tank. The only difference between the two is that one is steel and one is plastic, but everything else is the same.
Thanks,
Steve
Jeff's Bronco Graveyard

That's good news.

What is the term for the fitting that is tapped into the tank for the return line? I get the bulkhead elbow component. Did you use a hole saw for that fitting? Thanks.

Sorry about your injury. Good luck in surgery. A coworker of mine tried to cut his thumb off Monday. He got to ride in a helicopter to the University of Nebraska so they could reattach it.

As has been said - bummer on the surgery. As with many things in life it could have gone better, but I'm sure could be worse as well. Good thing you're got an able bodied helper around. My 1 yr. old wouldn't be great if I was down as she hasn't started TIG training yet. She can pull a trigger though so I'm sure she may be on par with some of the stuff I've seen coming out of some muffler shops

Heal up quickly. Hope your truck is at least drivable until you can get back to work on it.

78F-250Lariat- that is a push lock fitting. You simply push the appropriat size rubber hose on there. They seal well for low pressure applications. It looks like -AN connecting the pushlock and bulk head fitting.

As Nutter stated, it's an AN6 bulkhead fitting. Then an AN6 to 1/4" NPT, plan on threading in a 1/4" NPT x 3/8" pushlock barbed fitting in the end.

Yep, it's been back to daily driver status for about 3 weeks. I received the sound deadening from brown Santa yesterday. So next step is to get that installed and the carpet back in.

Think Justtanks or Justfueltanks sells Poly replacements, can't remember as it wasn't a huge concern when I stumbled on it. Also sounds like you've already ordered from JBG anyways.

Hope the thumb goes well, I filleted mine at work a few years ago, 14 stitches, the nerves have felt weird ever since but it's not really any bother.
