In Post #28 you show the rear of an SUV.
It looks like a 1991-94 Explorer Sport IMO.
I own a White w/grey bottom w/all the wheel & rocker cladding on a 1994 Ford Explorer Sport, 4.0L, 5-speed 2WD from California.
Is that Explorer(?) another 'project' or daily driver?
If it's a project, what are you doing with it?

Also, since you reference so many F600's and other trucks, I think it would be nice to show photo's of all your project trucks as well as your fleet of 'inventory' trucks, etc.

California farm country is surely the place for farm finds no longer used but great for restoration projects...

I'm in the Canadian North East, Atlantic coast where nothing old is readily available any longer.

Many thanks, Pete

Pete.. that was a rust free 1999 ford expedition... which I picked up for 200.00. It has 240k on it and while it looks like a soccer mom truck it is getting tired so Ive been slowly rehabbing it... I was originally going to use it as a camping vehicle but its getting nicer and nicer and it may be a back up mommie truck when the weather is bad

I have multiple builds going in all the different sub forums...
One day Ill line them all up for a group photo

Thanks

Parts numbers for these trucks are getting harder and harder to come by

1967 F600 part numbers for my build

15k rear axle, 5 k front axle ( my rear was a two speed)

14 x 2 1/2 front brakes

Wheel cylinders
Dorman W36075 rt front
Dorman WC6074 left front

Front hardware kit-drum hardware... 118-82005 ?

Got them at oriellys

Brakes shoes
Centric 112.3210 (summit had the best deal)

drum hardware... 118-82005 ?
Confirmed Brake Best Front H9219 (this is what I used)

King pin kit
Ford C3TZ-311A
TRW 306-113

MOOG (confirmed and this is what I used) 8488B
Got it at orielllys
My machine shop charged me 60.00 to ream them for a perfect fit...

I also had the drums cut and they were obscenely expensive at 60.00 each. I was lucky and mine all turned out to be ok.. if you've looked you know these are obsolete and unavailable anywhere. I have saved a second set off a scrapped truck for future potential need.. they are gold.

Rear drums Dayton number

Front spring bushings
Dayton RB 100

Front spring hanger new rubber isolators .. I had to shop around but I found them for 21.00 ea.. everywhere else was NOS for two to three times that
Dayton 334-501

Hooray..made in the USA

Brake hoses
C8TZ-2078H I had to find mine NOS.. and they weren't cheap.. 35.00 each

Seals and bearings were all oriellys parts matched up (national numbers)
Front bearing and race national A-6
Wheel seal 44052 (they are expensive)

Rear Inner 33287
Outer 3982
Race 3920

Seals 370047a

Rear Brakes
15 x 4"
Brake shoes show up in Centric catalog but are obsolete 112-0410 or 112-00880 (http://www.centricparts.com/)
Capitol Clutch and Brake relined mine, blasted and painted the brake frame for 25.00 ea
Rear hardware was an issue and I eventually had to get it from green sales
2296 Bendix springs.. I needed 8.. and they were like 8 bucks ea (FORD OEM NUMBER c2tz-2296-a)

Rear cast hangers C2TZ 5781 A (I would hate to have to buy them,,,mine were ok)

New transmission rubber mounts all came from anchor PTQ A2306
Amazingly these ALSO appear to be the body mounts.. they were cheap.. under 8 bucks...
The other half of the trans mount was a round rubber puck also a anchor part.. and cross referenced to light duty as well

Transmission brake shoes
Centric
111-06460 parking brake 9 x 3

Need some sun to blast and coat parts for front and rear reassembly

What would be a fair price to pay for useable drums off one of these rigs? And are all the front f600 drums the same? ( I doubt it, but one can hope!)

By the way, props for posting part numbers, those can be just as valuable as the parts themselves! I used to be a parts guy, and most of the time if you can find a number, you can find the part. No guarantees on the prices though!

I paid 250.00 for an NOS drum...Which as far as I can tell was the only one left in the US....That was a number of years ago
200 would be a fair price for a good used drum today...250 blasted and cut..

It's the only game in town
I got a call from Germany for f600 drums. They were willing to pay any price...A drum there would bring 500...
It's what the market will tolerate

I am holding my back up set just because of this

I spoke to a company who custom makes drums...The price wasn't worth even discussing

As far as forged crank motors
None right now... But if I was to sell one 500 would be a fair price...
I guess I'm lucky Sam..Since we spoke I keep running across them for a fair price..I'm holding four right now

I do have a 240 commercial from an air force f500 I might part with...Do you have any interest in that? Its a favorite of the mustang hot rodders and I havent even tried to sell it. I was going to use the head for my f250 "I hate fte" truck build for the hot rod 300 on propane for that project

The 67-72 mostly had the 14 x 2 1/2 drums.. 73-79 went to 15 inch and dual pistons.. the 67-72 are single piston.. most of them being a 5k pound axle

Pictures of rear shoes done by Capitol Clutch and Brake,,,

I spec'd heavy duty extreme stop material.. good for 20k pounds per shoe

I give them four stars.. the brake frame was nicely blasted and coated in a durable brake type gloss coating... and they went is as a rusty mess.... relining was cheaper even if I could have found the centrics. After seeing how nice they came out I should have just relined the fronts as well... live and learn

Note to self.. dont throw away those old rear shoes for you 67-72 guys.. they are no longer in production

73-79 are still available and are way easier to source (actually all the brake parts are.. but 67-72 is getting too old for easy service anymore)

I have been also continuing work on other trucks
This is a brush guard I built for my F600 frame off resto service truck

Its 2 inch 120 wall tubing with 2 x 4 120 wall uprights.. its over eight feet wide and really wakes up the front end!!!

There are mounts for the twin 9 inch diameter led driving lights

This was the second time for me bending... I bought an air over hydraulic bender from Rogue fab in Oregon ..Joe the owner has been super helpful and there is a bunch of fab tech tips for free on the site. I used my pirate discount and I couldn't be happier with it. It was a weld together kit at a third of the other big boy benders out there

https://www.roguefab.com/

Before anyone flames me.. Im not some kind of paid hack,,I just am posting up my experience... last time I spoke about bed liner someone jumped all over me as if I was selling the stuff... Im not folks..Im an end user..just like everyone else on here

Interesting, I've heard of industrial 240's on skids but never in a truck! Does it have the HD manifold? I might be interested, I'm just after the "cylindrical head and exhausting manifold" An industrial 240 head would be pretty cool.

I've thought about the forged crank, but considering a cast 300 crank will live at 7000 rpms for a whole season of drag racing, anything I build will be just fine! It would be cool to have a forged crank, and I have delusions, I mean dreams! Of welding and offset grinding one to get some more stroke, but I also need to get myself some property and a house.

Yes it has the hd exhaust... the heads are the same...AKAIK... they stuck forged cranks in them and that was it.. this one was a 69 air force truck

I drove the 240 equipped truck from nevada to redding ...it seemed under powered on the hills to me ( straight four speed np 435).. but you just stick your foot in them because they are so underrated... and this one had a governor to boot because it was military... I have the same truck in a 79.... air force as well.. 300..it has no governor but it has california smog and smog pump and lines and seems close.. a little more but not much... removing the smog and putting better carb on it wakes them up

The mustang guys like the 240 and really make them run.. they go gaga over the truck versions

the hot ticket is to use the 240 head on the 300 which raises compression

I never knew the 240 was an option in the bigger trucks, it seems tiny but I guess the flathead v8s in the 40's and 50s were only 239 cubic inches!
