Oil change or new lifters?

I bought this 1993 f150 300 i6 4.9l, it was in rough shape, needed new tires, balancer wore through the timing cover, needed a u joint. I replaced the u joint, put a new harmonic balancer, went to find a timing cover at a junkyard, cleaned it up real good and put that on. No more oil leak, no more jolt when you change gears, my neighbor helped me do everything. He said I need an oil change due to the lifters making some noise, it's like a ticking when idling, would changing the oil be a fix for it or would I have tor replace the lifters on it?

That noise can also be caused by a fuel injector.
