BTS Trip Nearing, Update Thread
Well I'm less than a month away from heading down to Lead Hill for my trans build, and its desperately needed. Current tranny is on her last leg, can barely go through the gears with no load without slipping. It takes about 5 seconds or so to go between 3 and 4. when it shifts out of 3 at around 2000 RPM the tach will slowly fall down to about 1400 then itll engage in 4th gear now. It's really suckin because that means my truck doesn't really move for a few more weeks. I've just had it parked out at the ol ladys parents place during the week and take it the 10 miles or so to town once or twice on the weekends to keep the batteries charged up in the cold.
My buddy had a tranny blow in his cummins for the 5th time a week ago or so, had it towed in to Des Moines IA and had a road ripper 2000 put in it from a small shop that could distribute certified transmissions, I went up with him to pick his truck up drop off the rental and pick up his trailer and a tractor on a 5000lb gooseneck after making a no load trip from Des Moines to Davenport. That thing pulled great with that transmission. Was like a whole new truck after getting rid of that stock trans. I'm really hoping my truck pulls even better than that when I get the BTS considering I'm paying another 1000 dollars over what certified charges for a built trans. With all the good reviews im sure i won't be disappointed though.
And the chip tuning, I'm really looking forward to seeing the difference not only in the trans but in the tuning as well, I got those rosewood stage 1's in and can't tell a difference in the performance of the engine beyond the 50 HP setting im guessing on my chip so hopefully they are able to wake them up as well so i can really get power to the ground. If it all works out I may be able to get the truck on the schools dyno and see whats really getting put down after this tranny problems done and gone.
Not really a whole lot to this thread at the moment just some thoughts, hopes, and dreams I felt like putting out there. Excitement is building.

I was using the Federal TA and 1606 together, now there saying either 1 or the other not both anymore, when i enlisted 6.5 years ago they told us that the TA would pay school and the 1606 was to help us make up money we lost by not being able to work full time while in school..... well so much for that! looking at over a 2000 dollar loss next semester.

When I enlisted almost 3 and some change years ago, I had the option to receive the tuition loan repayment, the MGI or the post 9/11 GI. Only 1 of those though. I don't really have the time to think about school for a little while still, but I should probably go to the ed center and talk to some people about all the options available to me.
I scored fairly well on the ASVAB. I can't complain on any of my line scores, all about 112, the highest be mechanics at a 126. Which is what counts really. I could have been any high skill MOS, but I chose to kick in doors.
That is unfortunate that you loose the ability to have both though. I don't really understand how the guard works as far as school goes. I'll have to talk to the LT tomorrow and see what's up. He might be able to give me a better understanding.
I was looking at BTS, but it doesn't seem like they do any ZF5 work, its all on the automatics...

Congrats man! I know the feeling being in school and waiting on money/grants. It's a good feeling when it finally comes through. Looking forward to hearing about it. I think you will be pretty pleased. When I first drove mine with the John Wood trans, it was night and day. Since the TC was finally working properly, it utilized the power band MUCH better. The shift form 2nd to 3rd felt like someone kicked it in the butt. Same for 3rd to 4th. It seriously felt like it got new programming. now, it's still the E4OD and will shift weird at times in the sense that it doesn't do it when we think it should, but that can be remedied with programming. I just haven't had that part done.
