Diesel tank

1993 F250, 7.3IDI. My front tank works fine until it gets down to about 1/4 tank. It will then begin to act as though it's out of fuel. A quick switch to the rear tank allows the engine to smooth out and continue on. It does this consistantly at the same point and then takes about 12 gallons to fill up. Is it Possible my fuel pick up line has a hole and begins to suck air at this level and thus behave as if running ou of fuel?

Very common problem. There is a plastic cone that breaks off the bottom of the pickup tube so you run out at 1/4 tank. Some refer to it as the cone of failure. Some people just use a piece of 3/8 fuel line to reach the bottom of the tank. You need to use line rated for submersion if you do it that way, the outer layer of the hose can come apart otherwise. I used a 3/8 compression union and a short piece of 3/8 steel line on mine. You can also get a new plastic cone if you want to keep I OE.

Thanks. I found the OEM sender on Amazon. Any idea as to the installation difficulty on my 1993 F250? I've been reading both to drop the tank or remove the bed techniques. But these discussion seem to involve model years different than mine

Got er dun

I got the OEM strainer pick-up from Amazon and got it installed. Easy enough. The old cone was in many very small pieces. Luckily, the engine hadn't ingested any. Thanks for your help.
