How far can you turn your tires at a dead stop?

My '02 7.3 Excursion will not turn even a 1/4 unless it is on dirt or moving. Our H2 has the very same problem. The '04 2wd V10 Excursion with just over stock tires turns a bit better but still not great. So it seems to be a problem that spans several brands and models.
Thanks for the information. Looks like a 1/4 turn on dry pavement is about the max unless you are bone stock, with worn tires.

For the small amount of time that a truck will spend at idle, brakes applied, and the driver attempting to turn the wheel lock to lock, it's not a big concern. And with the turning radius that these trucks have already, it's not exactly like nimble turning at a dead stop was much of a consideration to the engineers who designed the setup. I don't really care if my power steering is too "weak" to turn the wheel when my vehicle is stopped, all I care about is my wheels being easy to turn with some forward or backward speed and my brakes being powerful enough to stop the truck at a full giddyap.

>With foot off brake it would be hardest to turn with bald tires, next would be highway tires, and aggressive tires would turn the easiest.
>It doesn't matter what lift, tires, wheel size, etc you have with foot on the brake because the brake won't let any of them move (roll a bit).

None of the superduties I have ever had will turn more than what you are getting with your foot on the brake, whether they had stock tires or 37's, and revving up doesn't help. Put in in park and stock tires will turn fine chock to chock, even my 35 toyo mt's on my excursion will turn on pavement in park with no brake pedal. What you are experiencing is normal.. If you ever have to slam on breaks and need to turn, you better let off the break a little also, FYI.
