Working on a console set up but it definately takes extra effort to do when it is this cold outside. Tomorrow we are going to see if the truck starts up in 14 degree and colder. Picked up some LED turn signals, waiting to put them in because I need to pull a bumper and beat a mount back straight. Its going to be a cold one tomorrow.

See if there is a local Blacksmith. While he's heating up the mount so it'll straighten a lot easier you can be basking in the glow of the forge's heat. I love muli-tasking!

Truck has been running like a champ and hasn't missed a beat EXCEPT for a time that i was backing out of my parking spot and my throttle return spring fell off and flooded the engine....whoopsy. She didn't get to drive for a couple of hours.

Interesting thread here. Great truck find. The headlight information was a bit confusing, but I will have to reread through the info.

So Dad borrowed the truck to get a sofa, messed with the timing, now it won't start? Not judging, just clarifying.

What the heck for???

I like to run timing around 12-14 degrees. Idle screws are generally in the 1-1/2 to 2 turns range.

He claimed it wasn't "running right". Oh well got it fixed. The timing was at 16* and the idle screws were barely open lol. Surprised it ran.

Tell Pop keeps your hands off since you only thing you know what your doing.
All this info in the book manuals read it or please don't mess with it.

He may be the one who screwed up the lawn mower an that 's why it won't start now!'

Well he claims the idle screws were out 6 1/2 turns. I said if it runs there, run them there (although I know for a fact they were set at 1 1/2 whenever I installed the carb). Is it possible to cut new threads deeper in the holes from over tightening? I just snugged them to the point they didn't budge any deeper easily. I wonder if he sat and really cranked down on the things.

Its odd to have to tell your dad not to touch things, but if it is goofed and I didn't do it. If I goofed something on his car and I had to buy the new parts and fix it. It's not going to be the same way the other way around.

Is it possible for the idle mix screws to back themselves out?

It's possible to screw up the screws.

It is also possible that they back themselves out if they are worn.

Well I guess I am going to have to find out on Saturday of the extent of FUBAR.

Also found he pulled to the driveway with barely any gas, wondering if that helps the problem any.

Alright, well after some help from a crazy old man, we found that the gasket between the spacer and the intake manifold was shot. Well....runs better now.

Another problem arose, my battery no longer holds a charge after being ran into the ground while someone was trying to "diagnose" something and never put back on a charger because "there wasn't enough time". Any hood locks for these old beasts?

Okay guys. Ive done some things and I've been too lazy to update. A new rebuilt carb got thrown on due to come choke malfunctions I could not track down. Replaced the majority of my vacuum lines and heater lines. I also plastidipped the emblems and have a radio console sitting ready to be glued together. A new battery is going in this weekend. I pulled the wheels to check the brake rebuild, looks good. Put in new front wheel bearings while I was there. Truck is getting some good quality drive time this weekend.

I see a lot of these trucks with floor shifters. Any good kits out there?
