Kick panel vent install

Does anyone have measurements or advice for installing these kick panel vents?

I just bought this one off eBay, for much cheaper than what LMC sells them for. I think it'll make ventilation in my cab much better when I just want to pull in cool air.

My truck is an 86, and they stopped putting these in our trucks in 82, so my 86 kick panels will have to be modified.

Just place the vent on the rear of the kick panel and trim around it

Is there a specific location it should be mounted? Believe it or not, there is a little bit of real estate on each panel that makes it so it can be mounted in a lot of places. Up or down, front or back. I'm curious if it will matter, or just make it so it's level and opens and closes fine will do?

What you purchased mounts to the body opening which was originally covered with a metal plate behind the original kick panel. The kick panel would have to be trimmed to fit it once mounted.

Look on page #3 of this link: https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/7...esh-air-3.html

This was some time ago and it took a few minutes to find it. Hope it helps!

On my truck the driver side is a flat panel but the passenger side has a curve shape.
Not sure if if it would work on the right side. I am curious as to why the right side has that curve in it, was something mounted behind the panel?
Also, did Ford use this color of blue in 80-82 trucks?
Jim

I'm wondering the same thing. I don't have the passenger side yet, but when I get one, i'll be sure to upload it.

Upon inspection last night, I took everything apart, and noticed on the back side of the kick panel, there is a small raised line, almost like a seam on the back of the kick panel that I took a Dremel to, and cut out the panel.

I sanded it and smoothed it out afterwards. Looks presentable. I think the lines give a little too much room for the vent personally, makes it look a little loose, but i'll take what I can get.

Blue looks similar to mine on my 82. Maybe a tad lighter than what mine will be once I replace the door and kick panels.

I also dont use mine, having rubber floor mats and opening the vents kick dust and dirt up so I keep mine closed.

Thanks for posting the info, I was wondering about the pros and cons of having these.

Do they shut tight? .... or is there always some air leakage / noise.

I took my metal plate off the hole last night when I drove it over to my dad's house. It was about 40 something outside so my feet got very cold, very fast.

Once I installed it, no whistles, no issues, no problems.

I do need to clean out the area where the vent mounts though. Seems as if a lot of refuse/debris has gotten in there. I need a way to drain it.

Mine has no wind noise, only wind noise I have is created by the rain covers on my windows, you hear the wind noise through the glass faintly.
