Exclamation Old truck, mo' problems

I just recently acquired a 1959 F100 stepside shortbed, It was sitting for two years before I bought it and I got running in 8 days (had help). I tore the carb apart and got a rebuild kit for it, but the bowl still slightly leaks, I also put about 7 gallons of gas in it last week and it all ended up in the motor block, gas cap is vented so what would fix those two issues. The float also seemed to be in ok shape but the bowl is very pitted.

If the bowl is leaking that bad, the faces are probably warped. Which carb, the Holley 1904? If so, take it back off the truck and use a straight edge to check how flat the mating surfaces are. If they aren't flat, you may be able to help the ears back into position with some heat, a vice and maybe a small hammer. Google for Holley 1904 leaking fuel... there's a guy with a video to show you how. The other things that can happen is if the needle valve on the float is scored, it won't seal and you'll over fill the bowl.. which spills out, but usually results in rough running engine. Just a quick check... what kind of gasket are you using at the bowl?

Something else to add to the gas in engine, it could be the diaphragm in the fuel pump. It if is bad, it will pour straight into the the crankcase.

If the gas ended up in the valley pan, the carb is the problem. If the gas ended up in the crankcase, the fuel pump is the problem. What engine are we talking about?

Ok thanks for the quick response, I got a rebuild kit from orielys which they had to special order but yes it's the Holley carb. I'll have to get back with you on the seal for exact details on the brand of the rebuild kit. Should I do silicone after I take it apart?

7 gallons of gas in it last week and it all ended up in the motor block.

Chances are if you had 7 gallons of fuel in the crankcase, the fuel pump diaphragm is leaking as someone mentioned above. If the truck was parked nose down and the carb was leaking, you could have some gas in the crankcase, gravity siphon feed.

Take a file to the Power Valve behind the float. This will dump fuel right into the engine if not flat. Take your time and you tube is your best friend here. Dont ask how I know. Permatex work for the bowl leaking if you get the right kind. BTW Its my understanding that fuel eats silicone. Check out link below.

The permatex lasted the longest, but I haven't found a sealer that doesn't eventually get eaten.

All right I appreciate it guys, I will get pics on tonight as well it's, originally April green but now is black, it,s peeling from sitting in the sun for so long so is staring to resemble an April green Dalmatian.

And ok no silicone seals then, but I will take it off and check the float and power valve. Good ol folks at oriely's said I oughta run some cheap oil through and consider putting a shut off valve on the stainless steel line running to the carb before putting new oils or any new amount of gas.

I will keep everyone informed with the build as time and the truck progresses.

I will also check out the fuel pump tonight too.
And thanks for link on the carb I'll read over it thoroughly.
