Lift and Tire/Wheel Questions

I want to do a leveling kit on my 12 F250, and I was told I can put a 2" leveling kit in front, and F350 blocks in back. Does anyone know what size blocks I need in back to bring to F350 specs, as I figure factory blocks are prolly made of gold. Also my truck has a small block, then another small block on top of it now, is it possible someone already put them in, and if so how can I tell. Also putting on 35/12.50 tires on, can I mount them on my factory wheels or they need to be wider? And if I decide to do aftermaket wheels, what should I be using for backspace/offset. I also considered going to a 18" wheel with same size tire figuring the tire would look more substantial and lesss wheels to see ??

Not sure on you're levelling kit questions but those tires will fit the stock rims. If you do go aftermarket rims then +20mm backspacing is stock fitment, +1mm will stick out approx 1" wider than stock. Another plus to an 18" rim is that tires will be cheaper. It's all personal preference. Cheers

Brandon, Do you think the 18'' just plain look better too ? The dam tires are'nt really cheaper unfortunately. Did you do 18's ? I was thinking maybe even blacking out the stock rims. What size tire you running and whats your rear blocks look like from factory.

For rear lift blocks my 14' came with 1 3/4 inch factory cast lift blocks with ears for the jounce stops. I'm not sure what 350 spec is but I found with my 2 inch front level and a 3 inch rear block it looks perfect for my taste.

I achieved 3in rear lift by removing the factory cast ear block and putting a quality 3in steel welded block in place of it. The jounce blocks were removed when I installed the airlift so it wasn't an issue. I did see several companies that make a rear lift block with jounce ears that also replace the factory blocks.

Hope this helps.

Yes I have that block with the ear, did not physically measure but looks like approx. 1-3/4", I don't know but it almost looks like there is a small block below that one, unless I'm looking at the spring perch welded to the rear, I just took a quick look, didn't actually crawl under was raining, so basically your 1-3/4" block is setting right on top of the spring perch, correct. And I'm doing air bags, so your telling me I need to order blocks without ears ? I wonder what the stock F350 block measures? Are you sitting level or slightly higher in rear ??

I can tell you that the 05 f-250 had 2" blocks and the f-350 had 4" blocks. Don't know if they've changed but 1 3/4" is awful close to 2".

Louie, when I bought my truck last year, the OP had already installed a 2.5" leveling kit (spring perch spacer), which, in my eyes, gave the truck a reverse rake. I set out trying to figure out how to get that positive rake back, lifting the rear in the process. AFAIK, your 250 shouldn't have two-piece rear blocks, only the 350 DRW used that setup, you prolly just didn't look real good at it.

While it is true that F350 OE rear blocks (3.75") will give you what you're looking for, unless you find someone with a 350 that's taken 'em off, they're rather difficult to find at a reasonable price. Even with my dealer discount, I found the OE components were more expensive than say, Ready-lift's 2" rear block lift kit. That was the route I ended up going, as it was very affordable, and came with everything I needed.

As for the 35's, yeah, it's a pretty common +1 among us, I run 'em, lots of others do too.

Oh, and when you're looping the new longer U-bolts over the springs and putting 'em in place, make sure not to snag an E-brake cable......amhik

matter of fact, I should have a thread around here somewhere on this exact subject....

Ok measured the blocks so they are 1-3/4" and the other thing is just a heavy spring perch welded to the rear as I suspected. So I'm gonna do the 2" level in front and I can get these blocks TGC: 99-12 Ford F250/F350 / 00-05 Excursion 3.5" Steel Fabricated Lift Blocks in 3-1/2 " or 4" but I think I'm gonna do the 3-1/2" because I'm doing bags also and on my last truck even with the minimum 10# of air in them they seemed to keep the truck a little high, what do you think. Now the other question 35's in 18" or 20", any pros cons, not too much of a fan of low profile on trucks, love the look on cars but on trucks not really.

So that kit doesn't come with the longer u-bolts you're going to need. I'm almost 100% certain the factory u-bolts don't have enough meat on 'em to fit 2 more inches of block back there, but ymmv...

As for the "low profile" 20's vs. 18's.... well, I guess that's all in your perspective.....nothing about my 35/20's makes me think anything looks "low profile"....

The same company has u bolts for like 30 bucks, I e-mailed them for the correct length so is $130 for blocks and u bolts cheaper than Ford ? Your truck looks nice, your correct it really doesn't look low profile, but i'm thinking of going aftermarket wheels so I have the option and I guess I'm ol skool, liking more tire than rim !?

If the tires are the same price then I would personally go with 20" which is what I went with. I went with stock size tires which are 275/65R20's. I couldn't tell you what the rear blocks look like. It's snowing and muddy here so I unfortunately won't be crawling under there any time soon. Hopefully the answers the other guys gave you helped you out in that area. Cheers

The u bolts I first got were CRAP, I had to get another set and got these to be sure they were as strong as OEM.

CMill, I see you got a 2" level and 1.5 " blocks on back how did that sit, everyone has been saying you need the 3-3/4" F350 blocks with the 2" leveling ? Or did you somehow stack them over the OE blocks ? From what i have been reading you would be sitting high in front with that setup?
