idi transmission

My transmission in my 1990 f250 idi was shifting hard and just yesterday I was driving somewhere and when I shut of my truck and came back to it and tried to leave it would not shift out of first and will still not shift out of first. It sometimes shift into second when u keep it up in the high rpm but barley. If you have any clue on what it is please help

First check the oil in it. also there are two autos that year. Do you have an overdrive button on the dash.

Yeah I have good fluid and yeah I have a overdrive button on dash

You have to try and pull codes from the computer, I don't know how on a brick nose

you have E4od, every thing is controlled by pcm (powertrain control module) check all the fuses, and relays under hood for corrosion and all connectors on wires to transmission, The E4od will 1-2 shift with no pcm. at near full revs. hard shifting and a blinking OD lite indicates limp mode, F250 has a lot of information on the E4od, 3 sensors TPS $45, VSS $16, Tach$8o. the factory converter is not suitable for towing. the low stall triple lock is the way to go if not turbo, may want standard stall with turbo.

You won't need a high end code reader either, this guy works fine for that transmission:
