Donaldson oil filter problems

I ordered the Donaldson DBL 7405 extended life oil filter for my 01 7.3. Since I am overseas I can't currently use them, but my son scarfed one for his 02 7.3 and he says it will not fit. He said it only goes on one thread and hits the pan. Anyone else have this problem?

Is it possible it's the incorrect filter? the oil filter threads are damaged? or, the oil filter mount (top of filter) itself is asque? Possibly dropped?

There is the one currently installed on my truck. If its that filter and it doesnt fit, you have a filter issue, or an oil cooler issue.

I had just ordered a case of the ELF replacements, the Blue DBL 7405. I think it's JR not having faith, but you never know and it never hurts to ask. I sent the pics to JR and I will see what happens along with the message to stay out of my filter stock!

Well I just asked my son what he found out, he said that after looking at the pics of the Black filter the Blue one will not fit and hits the x member or oil pan. So I don't know if it is JR's 20 year old wisdom or the blue replacements have an issue.

He always like to see what dad is doing to his truck so he can do it on his 03 7.3. Oil filters being one of them. All of my OEM filters had magically disappeared (which I wanted to try something different anyway) since I have been overseas. He is going to Diesel Tech school so I have to believe he would know if the filter fit or not, but you never know.

So the question still is, has anyone used the new Blue DBL 7405"s?

I noticed today when I changed oil on truck in signature the Motorcraft filter angled towards the oil pan,due to the length it was no problem.

I looked at the product details for the ELF and the DBL and they are exactly the same. The only change they made was the color. I should go buy a new blue one (even though I have several black ones in the garage) and change my oil just to see if there is an issue. I am due for an oil change in about 2.5k but now I am curious. I still think either it's a truck issue or operator error but we will see.

It could be a messed up thread on the filter but I highly doubt that. It's hard for me being over here and trying to explain to JR that the filter will fit and work with it on getting it to fit. I looked up the specs for the two and noticed the threads were the same except one had a letter after the thread type. Again from what I could tell it was the same from the Black to the Blue filter. I'm not going to keep encouraging JR to keep trying to see if my filters fit his truck. I just wanted to see if anyone else was using the Blue filter and if there were any problems. One thing I do and would encourage everyone if they are not doing this, is to prefill the Donaldson before installing. This is a lot more filter to fill for the engine when the filter is dry.
