cupholder query

I'm pretty sure I saw this posted somewhere, but I've searched and searched and can't find...

Would someone confirm that the 2002+ console cup holders are deeper than the previous models? Are they direct swaps or do I need to cut stuff?

Pic from http://www.ebay.com/itm/2002-2007-Ford-Superduty-2002-2005-Excursion-Dark-Flint-Console-Cup-Holder-OEM-/261364940510?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&fits=Year%3A2003%7CMake%3AFord%7CModel%3AExcursion&hash=item3cda907ede&vxp=mtr looks pretty much identical.

That looks like the right one and they are easy to change. Wiggle it a bit and pull up to remove, snap the new one in place and you are done.

Not sure when they changed them, but if you have the old shallow style you'll know it because they eject a cup at the slightest provocation.

Both mine and my dads 01s have the deeper ones. I got an excursion console from a 2000 that I have in my 99 SD and the cup holders suck! I gotta replace that insert with one from an 01 up..its basically useless. Did for think we drive around sipping out of a dixie cup?

They are indeed deeper...

KrazeeMatt rode in both my '01 and '05 and he was appalled that I was able to fit a gatorade bottle in my cup holder.

I can't even get a can of soda to stand up in these useless shallow things. They're good for holding a small phone or $0.53 in change. Worthless things.

Horizon ford and tousley will have them for a few dollars less as well. May get you on shipping if not local to either one though.

Just look at yours and make the depth 3/4-1" shallower. Seriously though, they are exactly the same but for the depth.
