Rustybits, I'm loving the interior light hidden behind the glove box compartment. How long is that extension cord??
A thought occurred to me while reading here. If one were to buy a sheet or two of heavy kydex, take it and a small toaster oven to the garage/driveway, heat the kydex at 350 for about 90 seconds or so, then lay it over the opening and form a pattern, one would have a solid, workable pattern to make the dash unit. It is quite possible to use the kydex as the final mount as it is paintable and very sturdy.
I have used kydex for several projects and find it very easy to work with.
