Looking for Overhaul Manual 4.9L 300 inline 6
Good afternoon all,
I recently purchased a 1985 f-150 I want to restore. I was looking for some advice on where to find a good manual for an engine overhaul. I intend to purchase the original shop manuals, but was looking for a kind of "instructional" manual if you will. I found the Haynes manual for the transmission overhaul, and one for ford engines but it did not have the 300 I6 listed under what it covered. Thought I would poke around and see what some of you may have used in the past. Thank you and have a great afternoon!

I found this site. Ford Six Performance Home/Index
The only other thing I can think of is to wait for the Ford manuals you ordered, and then buy a "how to rebuild your smallblock Ford" or some book like that. The methods used in that book will be the same on your six, but just a few things are different. Prepping the block, measuring and inspecting the crank, rebuilding the distributor, proper procedures for putting it back together, are all the same for the v8 and the six. Hopefully any special "six" methods will be mentioned in the above website.

I'm rebuilding the same engine at the moment. If you've ever rebuilt an engine before, all you really need is the shop manual.
If this is your first engine, BoxWrench.Net has a great engine building video. While they use a V8, all the techniques and steps are the same.
In their DVD, they take you step by step through removal, tear down, machining, building the short block, finishing it up, break in, etc. It is a very good DVD.

I'll be happy to help and share my experience where I can. I'll first say that the Ford 300 is a physically long block and has been known to break off engine stands. Once I got to the point of putting the head back on, I installed the engine mounts and used some supports to balance it out better.
