Damn. I always wondered how shops stay in business. Now I know.
Not to be blunt, but that's a **** poor way to spend $10k. Find a low mileage replacement truck in awesome condition, keeping at least $2k available for repairs, and forget about your old rig. If you don't do your own work it makes ZERO sense to bring one of these old girls back to life.
Get out of the used car lots and open Craigslist.com, searching "F-350" and start making some calls. You'll find a peach of a truck for $6k from a private seller, forget the car lots.

I have a 1995 F-250 super Cab XLT.
The body is not in immaculate condition, but needs to re-painted. I talk to my mechanic, He gave me a quote of $7812.50 on the nose for a new Jasper Motor, Trans. and Brand New Radiator. He said for another $550.00 bucks he would replace the front disks and rotors and rear brake drums and brakes. Then he would also repair the rear end. It's a non slip rear end.
I got a quote for about $1500, bucks to re-paint the truck and the camper shell .
Any thoughts. I have 210,000 original miles on the motor, and about 75,000 on the trans. I would halve to look for my receipt for the trans. to be exact.
Any thoughts, I could buy used truck that's newer, but I think I would be buying some one else's problem's. Or buy new for about $45,000.00 plus, then have a big payment and then the expense of the add on crap, Camper Shell, Bed liner ,

Sounds to me like a truck that belongs in the scrap yard. If your ready to drop over $8k on repairs, you can afford a replacement truck.
For that money you can get a fairly low mileage, clean body and interior 4x4 F250 Powerstroke:
1996 Ford F-250 XLT 7.3L Power Stoke Turbo Diesel 4x4 F250 7.3
Or if you want a gas locally:
1997 Ford F250 4x4
And that is less than your new motor and trans...

i helped out a friend a few years back in a large ambulance garage.
never got more than 10,000 miles out of a jasper reman engine, or 5,000 miles out of a trans.
they were blaming the drivers for a few months until i tore one of the engines down and we saw the liners were not properly installed, and only the cylinders with the liners were new parts. the other cylinders had old parts in them.
after the one year contract with jasper expired and they went to a local machine shop for reman engines, cost was 1/3 for engines and life went back to over 100k miles on remans.
same with transmissions. went with a local shop and price was cut almost in half, with the same over 100k mile life.
