Newbie here
Hello all. I recently bought a 79 250 4x4 with a 400 auto. It's a California truck. White lariat with two tone delete. Has original paint and body in in pretty good shape. No rust. Will post pics soon. I've always been into restoring jeep CJ's. This is my first older ford. I've always driven a Ford truck and love the older ones.

Thanks for welcome! I found the truck on craigslist. After a ton of pictures I pulled the trigger. Truck arrived by hauler, in better shape than expected. I hunt in Tallulah, which is also in North Louisiana. This truck runs great. Hasn't leaked a drop since I've gotten it. Happy with that. Absolutely no regrets so far. It's hard to find any parts local to me. I have to search all over.

Welcome to FTE, sounds like a nice rig. Have you signed up with your FTE state chapter yet?

Great way to locate in state parts and maybe even a hand with these older trucks.

I think you need 10 posts to have PM abilities....
73-early 77 old style (no slit license plate) bumper, push guard top mount posts are at a different angle and the top feet are curved to match the round bumper edge. Also the bottom plates are square.
77.5 to 79 top posts are also at a different angle and the top post feet are bent at a 45 to match the top angle of the sort of squared bumper. Also the bottom plates are rounded.
Makes for an easy id.
So a early one will not fit and vice versa, unless you fire up the chop saw and the welder.
Pics are a older one on a newer truck. Also the older ones do not have the holes for the light brackets, the newer ones have holes on the middle and top bar to mount them.

I'm definitely no able to send PM's yet. I did get a later model push bar in black. Currently looking for the switch, wiring and brackets. I also have a chrome push bar. Fits a 78-79 bumper but has four mounting holes at the bottom. Square edges like on the cactus smasher not the inner rounded mounting piece like in the later version. Does have the correct angled top mounting tabs for 78-79

Keep reading, keep posting, knowledge and opinions are more than welcome around and just a sense of humor is too.
OEM switch, wiring, brackets and the lights are like hens teeth, RARE to say the least.
E bay sometimes, JY rarely and a WTB add on the FTE classified's maybe.
There are some folks with that stuff, but they know what its worth for sure. Can't blame them to much, it is like impossible to find.
A chrome like the OEM one, post a pic. I like the red color this guy went with.
This would be worth a small fortune if he had the other light and other mount bracket.

Here are a few pictures. I installed the chrome pushbar. I like the way it looks. I would say it is OEM. It looks like a mix between the earlier cactus smasher from the broncos, because of the 2 bottom mount holes and square plates and the later 78/79, due to the top angled mount. It's mounted on a 79 bumper. I couldn't find any other pictures of one exactly like this one. It mounts nice and flush so I'll rock it for now.
Overall the truck is really clean. I want to preserve the original paint. I'll probably pull the trim and buff the paint as best as possible. Did a test spot on the hood and there's good paint under the oxidation. The truck came with original window sticker and other original sales info. Build sheet etc. I'll start a thread once I get up and going. I just wanted to introduce myself and my rig.
