Jeff, that D2TZ-5B300-A spring retainer is junk in my opinion as I replaced both on my 72 F-100 back in the '80's. I guess too much "Majestyk" driving. The better one is either an earlier one or a dent one that I got from the JY. It consists of a thicker metal strap with two welded nuts. It is the one depicted in the drawing.

Part number by any chance? That drawing is from a 71 Ford Shop Manual. I agree the metal is a bit thin and I'm replacing one that split at the base of the threads on one side. It did, however, last a couple 100k miles and I don't envision an excessively rough future for the old girl. Originality, while preferred, is not critical.

Gotcha Rich. I'm on it. The Dent 4X2 one was part number D5TZ5B300A. Replaced by D5TZ5B300B. Running those on the locators here in a second.........

Jeff, could it be, say a C8 or C9 model? I can't remember what I got it from as it was in the '80's at a JY. Would you happen to have a drawing of the D5 model to see if it similar to the 71 drawing? I just thought that people would want a better part than the D2 model.

I am extrapolating that it would be the C6TZ5B300F part since the drawing comes from the '71 service manual.
