So much for the paint warranty!! Bye Bye Ford!!
First I took my truck to the dealer for service, the tech noticed a rust spot, the size of a baseball, under the hood right by the latch. So after 3 months I get the disposition from the regional service manager, not the dealership,. DENIED! He then tells me there is no appeal process that his word is final and there is no one else I can dispute this with. He then goes on to tell me that I have two options:
# 1 Wait until it gets worse and file another claim.
# 2 get it repaired and Ford would pay 20 - 30% of the repair cost. I was furious!
I took option three, which he did not realize...
I am now the proud owner of a 2014 Ram 3500 dually Longhorn Limited. Let me tell you the difference's I realized in my first three hundred miles.
1. Braking system is far superior in the Ram and I do mean far...
2. Get up and go is less in the Ram (I was used to 3.73's the Ram has 4.10's)
3. I have a DEF gauge!!
4. I know exactly what each tire pressure is!
5. I can see at night now.
6. Seats are much more comfortable.
7. Much more room
8. The engine break is extremely predictable and actually slows the truck significantly.
9. The Allison transmission is a beast
10. The truck is a beast.
11. The entertainment system is awesome. Hands down a better system by far.
12. The truck is so quiet inside! It is phenomenal
13. I now feel like I have a luxury vehicle. My F-350 Lariat Ultimate felt like a bottom line work truck in comparison. I had to upgrade the shocks, speakers, door seals, steering damper...
After 30+ years of Ford I say goodbye! Pissed off over a simple request after years of loyalty and literally hundreds of thousand of dollars. See ya!!!

I'm not a brand loyal guy and currently own one of each of the big three. I bought my current Ford because it had things I couldn't get in the other two. Supplemental heater, aux switches, powerfold mirrors, and mostly a supercab-shortbed-1 ton-SRW. If I was in the market today, I'd buy a Ram as they have what I currently would like the most. A short bed-DRW-megacab and most importantly factory air suspension. Who knows what will tickle my fancy when the time comes next... As to your warranty, I had something very similar on my 09 F250 when the chrome started peeling from my running boards. I was also told it was denied and that the rep was the final say. I kept calling until my running board was replaced under warranty. I should not have had to do that and if they never made it right, I would have done exactly as you did and switched brands. Although, not until I was ready for a new truck... After looking at your sig, it appears you are ready for a new one a lot more often than I! LOL. Good luck with the Ram. I'm sure it's a great truck...

If I ever left ford, it would certainly be for ram and never for GM.
Lucky for us, heavy duty pickups are really getting nice.
If it help any at all, I've noticed that I get zero satisfaction from a large dealer in a suburban area, doesn't matter if it's St. Louis or Atlanta, they just don't have the time or inclination to really give most things the time of day.
Last week, service writer in wentzville wouldn't even listen to me talk. Just said "my diesel tech is slammed, can't help you." All I wanted was for him or a friggin oil change guy to give me the code my truck threw. Woulda taken less than 3 minutes.
Just a part of the problem with things.

I've owned 3 Rams 2006, 2008, 2012 the last two had Check Engine Light Issues. IMO they haven't resolved this issue since 2007. I received a settlement from Ram over the 2008 truck as it was in the shop 17 times. Replaced 6 EGR's, 2 Turbo's, 2 DPF filters, 1 Cad - Converter. I tried to give them another chance, but when it came on in the 2012 it was time to get rid of it. I switched to Ford, due to the history. I would never consider a GM due to the suspension and now they chopped the top like the Ram. Bumped my head on the pillar post. I also don't like the plastic trim around the fenders. Check out this web site carcomplaints.com and look at the history of the Ram 2500-3500 from 2007 forward. then look at the Ford F250-F350 for the same years.

A friend of mine has a BMW X5 diesel. I had the same vehicle/engine. He has had his into the shop 5 times since he bought it, about a year and a half ago, for EGR problems. He drives his daily to work, short trips, 4 miles to work. I drove mine(just traded it) daily to work, 35 miles. I had no issues with mine, putting a bit over 50K miles on it. Just luck? Probably not. I've heard of lots of people having various EGR and turbo issues on modern diesels when not driven long enough or hard enough to get up to operating temperature and allowed to run there long enough and hard enough keep things clean.
I don't take my truck on short trips either, usually 35 or more miles and 70% of those are 60+ MPH driving.
Just an idea...

The last time the check engine light (CEL) came on was pulling my 5ver up the CA 395 around Bishop around 60 MPH. Stayed on for miles. Previously when the CEL came on the truck would loose power and would have to be towed to the Dodge Garage. Most of the time the CEL would surface was on 50-100 mile trips. Ruined our vacation on that previous trip since I was afraid it would shut down the truck again. So we decided no to go any further and camp over-night at Lake Crowley. The next day on the way home it went off. Go figure, after that it was time to sell!

I've heard plenty of good things about the Aisin tranny, I'm sure that's what he meant to say. The Ford tranny is a good one too, IMO, despite occasional complaints about the solenoid issues. It seems to be doing a good job of holding up to the torque. The Allison 1000 might be the worst of the 3 and really it's a pretty good tranny, lightyears ahead of the old 4R100s we had a few years ago.
