That's how it came? No manifolds or head? Pretty rough...

At least you have the water pump bolts. That's a start.

What are those really ragged and rusty looking holes just to the right of each cylinder? Serious question.

Good thing you said "serious question". I almost jabbed ya. They are coolant passages. So coolant can come from the block and go in to the head.

I am guessing that is NOT what they are supposed to look like.

Rarely do people ever do a coolant flush every few years so old coolant starts to rust things a bit. Not a big deal, but not what you want. The engine will still run.

True story Grasshappaa. And that rust and broken down anti-freeze does to parts of the cooling system what the Colorado River did for the Grand Canyon. Especially aluminum parts.

that is why that motor died, cooling problems. there was a repair invoice in the gun box (its Texas) that was for a water pump and radiator.

ok, so I have pulled the engine and transmission out of the 76 donor truck but I am having trouble separating the transmission from the engine. I have removed all of the bolts around the bell housing and there is a half inch or so gap but she won't come apart. and tips or tricks??

Have you removed the bolts holding the torque converter to the fly wheel?
