intermittent starting/idling problems 06 6.0 f350
my 06 f350 lariat 4x4 crew cab with big wheel kit egr delete bullet proof diesel engine oil cooler and bullydog PMT programmer 210k miles is having intermittent problems on a good day it starts up fast and runs like a champ the rest of the time i get a no start condition the motor turns over strong but the tach does not read any rpms sometimes if i try it a few times it will register rpms and crank other times if i hit it with a quick shot of ether it will fire up other times that wont even do it when it does run sometimes sitting at a red light it will surge as if someone had hit the gas other times it will surge then die i also notice if i press the break petal more than half way i loose the rpm reading on the programmer the only pattern is that it will not crank until the factory tach shows 100 or so RPM and the only code i get is for crankshaft position sensor circuit A i have replaced the crankshaft sensor the camshaft sensor the ICP and pigtail i have tested the output voltage on the ficm tried to visually look for wiring harness damage and tried running with and without the programmer and none of it has helped i am wondering if it could be in the tach wire or if it could be in the powertrain control module any help would be appreciated i cant afford a mechanic except as a last resort
