Replacing syncros in zf5 has anyone attempted this worth it or not

About 10 months ago a had to do a zf5 swap because my e4od was toast 180000 miles of being a farm truck and tractor hauler then turned over to me it was toast well because of lack of funds and not wanting to put a non built e4od in it I went with the swap now funds were realy tight so I bought a used zf5 from Ian at Ian's truck shop I fought he said it came out of his personal truck he said 3 rd gear syncro was going but turns out it was 2nd but now I'm wandering if I can save some more cash and replace the syncros myself

Replacing any of the syncros require the trans to be totally disassembled, so you may as well go ahead and do a full rebuild on it while you have it out and apart.

Is there any kits out there I'm currently going to a technical school on mechanics so tools to work on it shouldn't be a problem

I just bring my trans' to my trans guy. He bench rebuilds them for $450. SO it is not even worth my time to open one up

...and Brad - you're somewhat close to me in PA here, mind sharing your trans guy? I have an extra trans that needs rebuilding. I wasn't planning it now but for that price I may just go ahead and do it now while I'm tearing everything else apart.
