6.4 boost issue
Just a quick question on what might be the cause. I read this thread https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...-no-boost.html and maybe that is the problem.
It is my buddies truck and trying to see if there is a quick fix before taking it to the dealer.
He was driving on the highway and said the boost just dropped off and would not come back. No codes or anything. Even at idle the turbo isnt moving. If you give it slight throttle soot comes up from under the hood.
My guess is the turbo went out? I am not familiar with 6.4's. Any input?
Truck has 70xxx miles lifted on 37's with h&s tuner
Sorry if I sound like a nub
Thanks in advanced

If soot is coming out of the hood, sounds like an exhaust leak somewhere.
Is his truck tuned?
If it is, check what the exhaust back pressure sensor says idling, driving a bit.
Someone here could look at theirs and we will probably see yours is super low.
Sounds like a big exhaust leak. Maybe melted a hole in the piping.

When you jab the throttle the soot comes from what looks like behind the driver side head (cant see exactly where from but defiantly the driver side). The truck does have egr delete and such.

Smoke coming out from the hood isn't a tiny crack, it's a major crack, or serious parting of the exhaust somewhere.
Without more details, it's really hard to say whats going on.
Can you borrow a tuner from someone, see what your exhaust back pressure does while idling, driving?
Depending on where the exhaust is venting, the turbo might spool perfectly normal, or not at all.
Time to dig deeper, can you see smoke black soot marks under the hood anywhere, or against the firewall? When exhaust leaks, you get a black residue near the leak, on the pipes, and whatever is next to the leak.
