Bolt in Axle Third Member in C Clip Housing?

I picked up a rear end and front third member with 4.88's and a detroit locker in back for a great price but the third member is an earlier style without c-clips. Seems like it would work fine but wanted to make sure there weren't any issues using it. I needed to do the spring trick anyway. Oh, '85 Bronco

If it doesn't have the clip, you need to retain the pass side axle somehow. The ones without c-clip had a retainer plate on the passenger side housing with 3 or 4 bolts. Does yours have this and will it hold the axle from coming out?

No, it didn't come with the retainer. I've been having a hard time finding a picture of what it looks like so I can keep an eye out at the JY but I'll probably just run a spring in the slip yoke.

It uses a 9" style press on bearing and retainer. The bearing and seal are different than the c-clip axle, as well as the stub axle.
With the right parts no spring is required.

The retainer for the older trucks looks sort of like the picture below. The bolts thread into the pumpkin casting.
