MPG towing small trailer. 3.5 and 2.7 ecoboost
I'm thinking of buying a 2015 2.7 ecoboost 4x2 when available. I pull a 10ft. cargo trailer for work with a load of 1000lbs. Have any of you with a 4x2 3.5 ecoboost pulled a small trailer and what type of MPG's are you getting? Any guesses on what a 2.7 will get? I currently using my 2000 4.7 V8 Tundra with 409,000 miles on it for work. I'm getting 10-11 mpg with the trailer. It's getting a little tired and I need to get a new truck with better towing miles.

4x4, max tow towed my daughters car on a tow dolly at 60 to 64 mph and seen 15+, towing the travel trailer have seen 8-9 mpg, its all about trailer profile, the lower the profile the better the mileage, drag is a far bigger contributor to poor fuel economy than towed weight, a topper on top of the bed will cut drag down considerably.

Nobody will have any firsthand knowledge of the 2015 setup, but here's my experience with the current 3.5 EcoBoost. In my experience, I get the SAME mileage while towing as my old 5.4L V8, and much better fuel economy when unloaded. This is with a realtively light 5000lb (or less) camping trailer. For the record, I am very happy with this result, as I tow only a few trips a year, and I drive the truck empty the rest of the time.
Now it sounds like the trailer you pull may not block as much wind as mine, so maybe you are further ahead there. However, if you tow all the time, you may not see as much of an improvement as you are thinking.
